Hello Fellow Travellers.
For many years, I worked for a small consultancy dealing with European issues. Then came Covid and after yet another soul-sapping round of Zoom meetings, I felt that now might be the time to do something different, and the idea for this travel platform was born. The consultancy is called EPIC - the European Policy Information Centre, so I thought that this website should, at least to a certain degree, refer to an 'EPIC' way of travelling across our continent, hence the name EPIC European Journeys (I also fancied EPIC Journeyman, but that domain was taken up by some dude in California offering mind-bending journeys of a different variety). I started researching itineraries and writing up travel suggestions, trying to avoid the usual, run-of-the-mill offerings of so many sites that I had come across over the years. Friends and colleagues also offered ideas, posts and pictures, and hopefully we managed to come up with an inspiring list of ways on how to tour our continent in an EPIC way. I have posted some thoughts on the philosophy of travel, the carbon footprint that tourism leaves behind, and on how to travel independently. There are write-ups on some memorable, off-the-beaten-track adventures, as well as some rather wonderful, occasionally even iconic hikes and walks. To get away from it all, I have also included a section on islands, as well as a large list of road trips across many European countries. And if you prefer to listen to music whilst looking at footage, please check out my YouTube channel.
